Footlights
Theatre Dance School
Brenda Odds opened her theatre dance school in London at the age of 16, whilst continuing her training  with some of the top names of the day.  The school grew quickly and soon another branch was opened.

After moving to the Slough area, Brenda eventually opened "Footlights" in 1972.  Meanwhile, a close friend of Brenda's had become principal of the London schools, which continued to thrive.

Also at this time Brenda was training her daughter Caroline Downing (nee Odds), who became an assistant at the school and who is now co principal.

Caroline continued her professional training, and in 1996 her standing in the dance world was recognized when she was appointed as an examiner of the IDTA (International Dance Teachers Association).  She was coached for, and continues to be mentored in this role by Yvonne Gout who has, herself,
twice been president of the IDTA.

As an examiner Caroline travels all over the South East and occasionally abroad.  She is often invited to give lectures to dance teachers at various meetings and seminars in Ballet, Tap, Theatrecraft, Modern Jazz and Freestyle.  She also gives one to one training to established teachers and ex professional dancers who wish to advance their qualifications.

At the age of three Nicola Pearce joined Footlights and never left!  Having gained her qualifications she has been teaching at Footlights since 1999.

More recently, Caroline's two daughters Charlotte and Natalie have qualified and now assist.

We are proud and delighted that many of our former pupils have brought their children to Footlights.

Footlights continues to enjoy an excellent record of success in exam results and in the preparation of students for careers in the dance world or associated professions.
